The SR 27 is a fairly amazing boat. I have owned the following boats….Santana 20, Wylie 25, Capri 30, Laser 28, Soverel 27, J/27, B25, Hotfoot 27, S2 7.9 and a few others I can’t recall at the moment. Prior to owing the SR 27 I can say my all time favourite was the J/27. The J/27 is just a real pleasure to sail, race and to own. The SR 27 is basically a modern day J/27. A boat that truly revels in stiff breeze and is also a pleasure to own and race. Fortunately it is more comfortable to sail thanks to the incredible cockpit; and more responsive on the helm largely due to the large inboard rudder. Off the wind in breeze it is an amazing performer. Hi-teens all day long in complete control.

The interior is also very much like a J/27; only more open. Large V-berth and two quarter berths that can provide sitting headroom. With the keel fully down it becomes a padded bench and is the perfect spot to fold the kite (or mix drinks from the cooler step) These boats are incredibly rare as only 7 were built before the moulds were destroyed in a fire. To the best of my knowledge this is the only one located on the West Coast and is the first to come up for sale in well over a year (or more).

I am asking $ 22,000 including a yard trailer. The boat is currently sitting on the trailer here in Penticton, B.C. (roughly 6 hours north of Seattle, WA) The Yard trailer can move the boat around town but would not be a Hwy trailer. Not without some work at the very least. The boat was actively racing until we pulled it from the water a few weeks ago as our lake freezes in the winter months. Like all boats it needs a few things and I am happy to send you the “to-do” list of items. I have spent over $ 5K doing a re-fit on all of the major items and most things left to do are very minor and mostly maintenance related.

Feel free to cruise this blog and learn more about the SR 27 and ask any questions that you have. The following is from the original advertisement from SR Yachts….

“The SR 27 is a boat for you sailors who know what you want. A huge and comfortable cockpit, underdeck spinnaker sheets, flared deck,, four two speed winches, all Harken hardware and outrageous boat speed and features that can only be found on the SR 27> The clincher is that you can raise the keel and ramp launch her. Trailer her to exciting races in other oceans without the need for cranes and a hoist. There is a reason why this works. The design by Glen Henderson was analyzed repeatedly in hydrostatic and velocity prediction programs. The deck and trailering systems were adapted from the experience gained from designing and building the eminently trailerable SR Max> The convincing factor is her boat speed. Take a close look at the SR 27> It is not for everybody, only for those who want the best. The SR 27> was voted Sailing World Boat of the Year in the One-design and Day sailor category” – original SR Yachts ad circa. 1993
